Finals are over and I have some prints to hang in my house. The dining room wall is perfect, but it needs a little upgrade

Daniele painted the wall the same grey that we used on the other side of the room to define the dining room space

and here is the result with my big woodcut reduction “soffocare”

We’ve been looking for more than 1 year for the right curtains for our dining/kitchen area, but we never found anything we really like. Finally thanks to a living social deal I had the opportunity to afford this set of two curtains from 3 day blinds! We love them. You see outside, the light passes through, and the modern look is really awesome.

Some improvement on the outdoor, at the end it is summer! Here some curb appeal and additions to our backyard

Here is my small herb sector, with rosemary, cilantro, (huge) sage and origan.

DIY: Backyard Fence

Summer is really here, finales are over and this is the perfect time to enjoy our backyard. But as always we need to make some updates.
We started with the fence. We definitely need some more privacy, so we decided to close with some cider wood the east side of our fence. Pretty easy and cheap.

MFA: printmaking progress

I just opened a new blog called my mfa (you can watch my progress here). Yes, I started a Master in Fine Arts this Spring, here a taste of my printmaking class works.

This is a Woodcut Reduction, called “Soffocare” (choke in english)

I still miss my last reduction and my last color to print, but this is the overall idea.
It is a big artwork for me 24X25 inches.

This is called “Arrivano” (here they come) and it is the last step of an etching zinc plate I’ve been working on for a month now.

Another etching is “Wood“. I have two version of it, and I’m still trying to decide which one is the most convincing to me.

This is a play plate. I try etching and engraving effects and ideas here. It is called “Noise” and I tried to print it in dark red.

This is my first print of my last piece. It is called “Reaching the Sky“, always an etching. I guess it is my take on Vietnam… so far I really like it.

Makeover: Ikea hacker for my studio

I have this great space on top of our garage that we call studio, but for a long time it was just and empty room, then a very busy room, but with no order at all. Now that I started my MFA I need a space to keep my works and with Daniele we decided to transform the space in a artistic/musical studio.

We actually just rescued a Hammond Organ (thanks to my friend Maria) that it is supposed to go up there. So far it is still in the garage because it is way to heavy for just me an Daniele to carry it on top of the stairs…

I had a very old Billy bookshelf and a malm night stand (both birch vener)

more 2 stools franklin and a Galant desk (birch veneer)

I panted the billy, the desk and the nightstand white, and the stools red

I flipped billy horizontally and moved the shelves, add a couple of foot that I painted grey

And painted it white as well.

put everything together and add some of my art work on the walls

On the next post I’ll show you the other side of the room, the music studio…

Paint: dining room accent wall

It’s been a while that Daniele pushes me to paint some accent walls. I actually love accent walls, plus, we had some leftover grey paint from our master bedroom remodeling project, so why not?

Basically our main floor is one big space with living room, dining room and kitchen. So in order to define better the spaces, we decided to paint a couple of accent walls. Here is a basic and 3D plan of the house already with the grey wall painted.

Makeover: Patio (part #2)

Here is the finished Patio (this is makeover #1) by the end of summer 2011. Colorful and happy, we really enjoyed it with this incredible weather on Colorado (almost october and still 82F…!)

Great additions for this make over: pillows I made from this incredible fabric, Outside Oslo (dusk) found on howaboutorange.com, and some super cheap chairs (Only $60 each) from crateandbarrel.com/outlet [tooltip text="ciccio"]palla[/tooltip]

Sew: my new wallet

I purchased this Outside Oslo fabric ( Dusk Colorway), for some pillows to use in the patio (post to come…) and I had some left overs. In howaboutorange.blogspot.com in the DIY section I found a tutorial for a little sew project. Since I decided that my old wallet was way to big and not original at all, I decided to sew my own.
